Commercial Glycol Chillers & Long Draw Power Packs
A glycol power pack circulates chilled propylene glycol alongside the beer lines in an insulated trunk line, keeping beer at walk-in cooler temperature from the cooler to the faucet on remote and long draw systems. For remote runs or lines passing through warm space, glycol cooling is usually the more reliable choice. Forced-air systems can also work in properly designed installations, but blower capacity, duct size and run length must be matched to the system; see air-cooled draft beer systems.

Specifications below are taken from each product listing. Chill-Max lists a maximum distance to the tower for each model; the Micro Matic Pro-Line™ listings do not, so size those units with the BTU Load Calculator or contact us.

Sizing Your System
- Run length — longer trunk lines add cooling load; check each model's listing
- Tap count — more beer lines in the trunk add load
- Ambient temperature — warm spaces such as kitchens and outdoor bars add load
- Circuits — each pump circulates its own glycol circuit; separate trunk lines may need a multi-pump unit
Start with the BTU Load Calculator, or send us your run length, tap count, and cooler location and we'll help you spec the right unit before you order.
Glycol Mix
Use food-grade propylene glycol only — never ethylene glycol. Follow your power pack manufacturer's mixing ratio: the Micro Matic Pro-Line™ listings specify 40% propylene glycol to 60% distilled water.
Glycol System FAQ
How far can a glycol power pack cool a beer line?
It depends on the model and the installation. The Chill-Max listings give a maximum distance to the tower from 75 ft for the 2,560 BTU unit up to 350 ft for the 6,138 BTU unit. The Micro Matic Pro-Line™ listings don't state a maximum distance, so size those with the BTU Load Calculator or contact us with your run length and tap count.
What's the difference between a single-pump and double-pump power pack?
Each pump circulates glycol through its own circuit, so a single-pump unit serves one circuit and a double-pump unit serves two, such as two separate trunk lines. All pumps share the unit's listed cooling capacity. The Chill-Max double-pump listings also note that twin pumps provide redundant glycol flow.
How do I know what size (BTU) glycol power pack I need?
Cooling load grows with trunk line length, the number of beer lines, and ambient temperature. Use our BTU Load Calculator for an estimate, or send us your tap count, run length, and cooler location and we'll help you choose a unit before you order.
Can I use antifreeze (ethylene glycol) instead of propylene glycol?
No. Ethylene glycol is toxic and has no place near a beer line. Use food-grade propylene glycol only, mixed at your power pack manufacturer's ratio; the Micro Matic Pro-Line™ listings specify 40% propylene glycol to 60% distilled water.
Do I need a glycol system if my kegs sit right next to the tap?
Usually not. A direct-draw setup, where the kegs and faucets share the same cooler, doesn't need glycol. For remote runs or lines passing through warm space, glycol cooling is usually the more reliable choice. Forced-air systems can also work in properly designed installations, but blower capacity, duct size and run length must be matched to the system.
Building a Full Long Draw System?
A glycol power pack is one piece of a complete long-draw draft beer system. See our Draft Beer Trunk Line collection for insulated trunk line that carries beer and glycol between the cooler and bar, and Draft Beer Towers for the dispense point at the end of the run.
